During the past 24 years, the tournament has raised funds to support charity, primarily focusing on childhood can- cer, and recently, the addition of initiatives to address childhood hunger. The C&S Charity Golf Outing began in 1985 as a fundraiser for sev- eral local charities. Masters of Ceremonies included members of the C&S senior management team: Richard Wyckoff, executive vice president of sales & marketing and chief customer officer Bob Palmer, executive vice president of pro- curement and merchandising Bruce John- son, executive vice president of human resources and Scott Charlton, executive vice president of operations. Guests at the post-golf dinner heard speeches from representatives of The Children’s Hospital at Dartmouth (pediatric oncology unit), The Hole in the Wall Gang Camp, and the Jimmy Fund/Dana-Farber Can- cer Institute. C&S employees and sev- eral retirees organized the tournament, held at the Mount Snow and Haystack courses in Vermont and at the Crumpin-Fox course in Massachusetts. Rick Cohen, chair- man and chief executive officer expressed his thanks to the participants for making the event successful and also said "Ron Wright was a guiding force behind our Golf Outing and it meant so much to him to give back to kids. Dedicated to the memory of Ron Wright, former president of C&S who lost his battle T he customers and vendors of C&S Wholesale Grocers showed their gen- erosity again this year at the company’s with cancer earlier in the year, the event had more golfers (890) than the previous year, joined by 300 sponsors. Despite the tough economy, the event was a great suc- cess. The event raised $1.1 million in grants to organizations that focus on pedi- atric cancer and childhood hunger.
